Morwellham Craft Courses

Blacksmithing

An intensive day course where you will be taught the core techniques of working with hot steel in a traditional forge by experienced professional blacksmith James Deane, with up to four people.  On completion of the day you will go home with something that you have forged by hand to treasure.

Price £150 each

Suitable for beginners, aged 18 plus, all courses will run from 10.15am until 4.30pm and will include insurance and all materials, as well as refreshments and a light lunch. 

 

 

 

Felting

Come and learn how to make fabulous felt with expert tutor, Jean Fenton and up to ten participants. Learn flat felt techniques and make a picture using hand dyed wool fibres and a selection of exotic silks and textures. Then move on to 3D techniques in the afternoon.

Price £50 each for a full day.

Half day sessions also available.

Glassblowing

Ever wanted to blow a bulb or make a glass animal? Join Graham Reed, a Master Glassblower with fifty years of experience and teaching, to learn some of the basic skills. The one day course for two to three people includes everything you need; glass, tools and safety specs, you just need to bring your own ‘puff’!

Price £95 each

Suitable for beginners, aged 18 plus, all courses will run from 10.15am until 4.30pm and will include insurance and all materials, as well as refreshments and a light lunch. 

 

Pottery

Spend a day with our potter, Tania Clarke, learning how to throw a pot on the wheel as well as make a dish by coiling, pinching and hand building before it goes in the kiln for firing.  You will be in a class of two to eight people and everyone will get a turn on the wheel.

Return for a half day the following week to slip-decorate your work.

Price £70 each for full day ‘make’ and an extra £30 each for a half day to ‘decorate’.

Suitable for beginners, aged 12 plus, ‘make’ day will run from 10.15am until 4.30pm  and ‘decorate’ day from 10.15am until 1.30pm and both will include insurance and all materials, as well as refreshments and a light lunch. 

 

 

 

Bakery

Spend a day with our baker, Susan Champion, learning how to bake bread, saffron cake, egg and bacon tart, as well as a pear frangipane tart. One day course for two to four people.

Sewing Workshop

Spend the day creating with textile enthusiast Sarah from Just Sewn Stories. Using a combination of both simple hand stitching techniques and   machine sewing on beautiful hand sewing machines dating from the early 20th century, you choose from a selection of vintage remnants, reclaimed fabrics and embellishments to create a unique book cover. The day will start with making a simple fabric coaster to familiarize you with the sewing basics. You will then go on to design, decorate and stitch your personalised book cover.

Either bring along a favourite novel, photo album, diary or sketchbook (hardback works best), or purchase an A5 hardback lined notebook from Sarah on the day.

Price £70 each

Suitable for beginners, aged 18 plus, all courses will run from 10.15am until 4.30pm and will include insurance and all materials except the book, as well as refreshments and a light lunch.
